We need Rock 'n' Roll!
Wednesday, November 15, 2006, 08:20 PM - Music, - NL, Personal, English
You can say that!
I mentioned in my post of Chris and Cosey that I played in the basement of Paradiso.
Some recordings are made, and you can listen to them on YouTube at your own risk.
If you think my web radio is vague, try this.

It was a 'headphone concert'. We played in the bar, but you could only hear us when you put on a headphone. Brilliant idea, most of the time I find live music in bars very annoying and too loud.

Ate M Hes was also playing with us, it's worth while watching his videos on YouTube.

Hey June (1970, NL, pop/rock/psychedelic)
Monday, November 13, 2006, 03:55 PM - Music, - NL, English
This is a sampler with Dutch bands who where not so well known, except for Brainbox. But there are musicians that became widely known in other formations.
Jan Akkerman plays with Ritmo Natural. He just had left Brainbox and after this recording he formed Focus.
Hans Dulfer (father of Candy Dulfer who played with Prince), also member of Ritmo Naturel, is a successful jazz saxophonist who had a big hit in Japan with Dig! in 1996.
The members of Slight Ache became very famous comedians in the Netherlands named Neerlands Hoop (Dutch Hope).
Continental Uptight Band had some commercial success in the Netherlands.
Never been famous Island is hard trying sounding like Led Zeppelin's Whole Lotta Love.
The lp of Ahora Mazda is available on cd.

To get some attention, the lp was named after the Beatles hit Hey Jude.
This was my second lp and I got it from my mother.

Side one:
1 Brainbox - To you [3:24]
2 Opus - Baby come on [4:48]
3 Slight Ache - Second flood [3:00]
4 Ahora Mazda - Fallen tree [9:10]

Side two:
1 Continental Uptight Band - Please sing a song for us [2:33]
2 September - Litle sister [3:39]
3 Island - Super woman [3:43]
4 Brainbox - So helpless [2:35]
5 Ritmo Naturel - Morning after the third [8:29]

You can find a lot of information, also about this album, on the Dutch Progressive Rock site.

Supersister - Last Picture Show (2006, NL, psychedelic/canterbury)
Sunday, November 12, 2006, 06:13 PM - Music, - NL, English
Supersister did some reunion concerts in 2000.
Now they released a 2 DVD set with the complete registration of the Paradiso concert and a documentary of the rehearsals for and concert at the ProgFest in L.A. Included on the DVD is a slideshow of old pictures of Supersister (including some of the pictures from my high school agenda). But more important is the fact that the music that goes with the slideshow is old, never released Supersister recordings. From the very beginning, when they played blues, to 1969 with psychedelic material, till one of the latest line-ups with Charlie Mariano.

1 Super blues
2 Seven ways to die
3 Session at De Laan
4 Present from Nancy
5 Mexico
6 Judy goes on holiday
7 Transmitter
8 Charlie's return from India
9 Looking back

The mp3 files are converted from the ac3 audio.

But better: [Buy the DVD] the DVD is sold out.

New Bauer video at YouTube (2006, NL, Canterbury)
Tuesday, November 7, 2006, 10:21 PM - Music, - NL, English
In case you wonder: this is not about Frans Bauer, but the Amsterdam pop duo Bauer.

And remember: Bauer live November 14th in Amsterdam, 18th in Den Bosch.
I'll be there all three times.

Dutch Pop Giants (1969, NL, pop/rock/blues)
Thursday, November 2, 2006, 07:15 PM - Music, - NL, English
This is my first lp. I got it with my first record player.
It was a mono player, but we discovered that Philips mounted a ceramic stereo cartridge in it.
So we soldered two extra wires on the cartridge and led them to the auxiliary input of my transistor radio and we had stereo!
We did that with a couple of friends, all of us had a cheap Philips mono player with the same cartridge.

On this lp all, for that time, well known dutch bands who played in pop/rock/blues style. I think, looking back, Rob Hoeke r&b group was highly underrated, notice the bass player and singer. They had the wrong name...

Side one:
1 Ekseption - The 5th
2 Cuby & Blizzards - Window of my eyes
3 Oscar Benton blues band - I feel so good
4 The Rob Hoeke r&b group - Don't feel ashamed
5 De Bintangs - It's all over now
6 The Motions - Eliza

Side two:
1 Cuby & Blizzards - Checkin' up on my baby
2 Oscar Benton blues band - Heartaching bkues
3 The Rob Hoeke r&b group - Lying in the grass
4 De Bintangs - Blues on the ceiling
5 The Motions - Freedom
6 Ekseption - Sabre dance

Group 1850 - Mother Nohead @ van Oekel's Discohoek (1975, NL, psychedelic)
Monday, October 30, 2006, 06:11 PM - Music, - NL, Fun, English, Nederlands
This is a late appearance of Group 1850 on Dutch television.
I don't think the Group really existed at that time. It is Peter Sjardin who is playbacking, but the rest are invited friends I suppose.

Van Oekel's Discohoek was a persiflage on other popular music programs, presented by Sjef van Oekel, who couldn't learn a single line by heart. Therefor he always hold papers with the text in his hand. The writer of the show, Wim T Schippers, exploited this: if Sjef anyway had to read his text from paper, why care for easy to remember lines? So there was no limit in the absurdness of the script.

Group 1850 was not so popular in the Netherlands, I remember a concert where there were not even 10 paying visitors. Instead of doing their normal show they invited the audience on the stage to play with them. I didn't dare...
